Holiday Fun in Downtown Long Valley

The Long Valley Village Association's Second Annual Holiday Happenings will be held on Sunday, December 2nd in downtown Long Valley. The festivities will be from 2-7pm.

There will be fun-filled events for the whole family, including horse-drawn carriage rides, musical performances at the downtown restaurants, refreshments, holiday crafts for all ages, caroling, games and a very special visit from Santa Claus. There will be tours and fun activities at both the Washington Township Historical Society Museum and the Obadiah LaTourrette Grist Mill.

Gingerbread House Display and Contest

During the event, gingerbread creations will be on display at 18 Schooley's Mountain Road during the 3rd Annual Gingerbread House Contest and Display sponsored by The Long Valley Junior Women's Club.

All children and families are welcome to enter a gingerbread creation of their own design for display and prizes. Pre-registration is required at www.lvva.org.

While visiting the gingerbread display, stop by and visit the Reading Fairy, who will be on hand at 18 Schooley's Mtn. Road to delight children.

Plan to stay for the 21st annual Christmas Tree Lighting at Zion Lutheran Church at approximately 6:00 pm. The tree lighting will be followed by a very special visit from Santa Claus.

In addition, this year the downtown area will be aglow with hundreds of luminaries and holiday trees decorated with bird-friendly ornaments. You won't want to miss it!

Helping to Spread the Holiday Cheer

Send greeting cards to the troops - during Holiday Happenings, children and adults will be able to make and send holiday cards to US troops at Somerset Hills Bank. Seasonal cards, and supplies to make homemade ones, will be available at Somerset Hills. These cards will be collected and sent out to members of our armed forces serving overseas or who have returned home injured.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors - In the spirit of the season, people are requested to bring donations of canned goods or other non-perishable items to be distributed to local families in need during the holiday season.

Girl Scout Troop 42 is collecting baking supplies for the Long Valley Food Pantry so the needy in our area can experience the fun of baking together at the holidays.

The Interfaith Community Outreach of Washington Township Area (ICOWTA) will also have a table where residents can sponsor a wreath for $20.00 which goes to help support this vital outreach program in our town.
